Magic and the Mind
Magic and the Mind is a San Diego-based enrichment program using magicians' techniques to teach students about the psychology and neuroscience of deception. The goal of the program is to help participants better understand loopholes in certain cognitive functions, enabling them to interpret the world more accurately and to make better decisions in everyday life. Inspired by the work of neuroscientists Susana Martinez-Conde and Stephen Macknik, cognitive scientist Dr. Iris Oved conceived Magic and the Mind a few years ago and has since partnered with San Diego magician Tom Interval to design and teach the program. The first programs—children's camps—will be offered in the summer and fall of 2014 through the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Extension.
